Mamafaka’s Virtual Hideout

Pharuephon "Tum" Mukdasanit, also known as "Mamafaka", is a Thai graphic designer and street artist, best known as the creator of one of the most recognizable characters in Thai pop art, Mr Hell Yeah. Over the years, Mightyjaxx has had many collaborations with Mamafaka to produce one of a kind toy figurines of his work.

In Aug 2020, due to the coronavirus outbreak, many countries to close their borders and restricted large-scale launch events. The much anticipated Thailand Toy Expo 2020 was cancelled as a result.

In light of the situation, Mightyjaxx decided to host its first virtual platform for customers to experience the event online and purchase coveted figurines digitally. To promote Mamafaka’s new release, Reaper Rats, I created a virtual environment embodies a story of “Being Rats”.

Within the virtual space, there are mini activities that the user can interact and play. For example, the bottom artwork takes inspiration from Finding Wally. If you are able spot the furball (first image on top), and enter the virtual space and you will be able to receive it as a gift.

In the video below, take a peek into the virtual space created by me.

The virtual space was also featured in an article on Mashable.

3D structures were designed and created in Rhino. Each surface is embedded with bump and textures. The graphics were adjusted in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Procreate. The fps controller, colliders, animations and baked lightings were added in Unity.
